And these are the official results of the 2011 Aqua Maris World Championship Jala Neti. IFJN would like to congratulate the winners, especially Mr. Konyukhov, Russia (Федор Конюхов) who won his 3rd consecutive World Champion title, Mr. Patanjali, India (पतंजलि) who dominated the 10 litre class, and Mr. Clark (USA) who won Silver and Bronze in both classes.

“IFJN is responsible for guarding the Jala Neti’s heritage and encouraging millions of people around the world to use the proper Jala Neti technique. That is why the Technical Committee of IFJN decides not to amend rules of the official tournaments, organised by IFJN. Athletes participating in the official IFJN tournaments are only allowed to use their nose. They are still allowed to use their breath to increase the speed and volume of the water running through the nose.
The Technical Committee declines the proposal submitted by the American Jala Neti Association to allow an alternative Jala Neti technique, where athletes could use their mouth (the athlete would sniff the water into the mouth and spit it out). This technique clearly contradicts the centuries-old tradition of Jala Neti.”

The venue is easy to reach both by public transport and by car. There is a direct bus (bus 300, direction Amsterdam Arena) from the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Please, ask a bus driver to stop at Langerhuize and follow the signs placed by IFJN. If you travel by car, drive to A9, take exit 4-Ouderkerk a/d Amstel toward Amstelveen-Oost and follow the signs Emergo Sports Hall.

IFJN would also like to congratulate runners-ups Gurumayi Patanjali (India) and Michael Clark (USA). Mr. Patanjali won 3 medals in 2010 proving that he is one of the best athletes in the history of our sport. He was the first Indian to win the prestigious Adriatic Jala Neti Cup in 2003, and of course, he was the first World Champion Jala Neti in 2008.
Mr. Clark entered the Top 10 in the IFJN ranking just two years ago. He surprised many of us by defeating Mr. Konyukhov and Mr. Patanjali on the 2010 Adriatic Jala Neti Cup and by winning Silver of the 2010 Aqua Maris World Championship.

In reaction to this announcement, Mr. Konyukhov said: “I’m very happy to win this title. This gives me a lot of encouragement in my preparations for big tournaments of 2011. Especially for the Aqua Maris World Championship in August, where I hope to become the World Champion for the third time”.
